United at the Table!
As the world gathers in the New York–New Jersey region for the historic FIFA World Cup 2026™, Newark takes center stage with Savor Newark 2026: The Culinary Cup — United at the Table Symposium.
As the City of Newark’s official kickoff to the World Cup celebrations, this FREE one-day international culinary event brings together chefs, restaurateurs, and cultural leaders to showcase Newark’s dynamic food scene—shaped by generations of immigrant communities.
Newark’s cuisine is a living expression of the people who call the city home, where each culture contributes distinct traditions and flavors to create an authentic and richly diverse dining experience.
From the Portuguese, Brazilian, and Spanish influences of the Ironbound District to the vibrant African, Caribbean, and South American cuisines found throughout the city, Newark stands proudly as America’s Authentic Food Capital.

Deputy Mayor & Director of Economic & Housing Development
Allison Ladd spearheads Newark’s housing and economic development efforts, advancing Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s equitable growth strategy. Her work focuses on leveraging billions of dollars in new investment to create inclusive opportunities for residents and businesses, ensuring that Newark’s growth benefits the entire community.
Ms. Ladd joined the City of Newark after serving as Deputy Director of the Washington, D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). She assumed her role with a commitment to fostering a culture of participation and inclusion—one that prioritizes equitable opportunity, shared prosperity, and sustainable growth, rather than displacement and gentrification. Under her leadership, Newark has made significant strides in realizing this vision.
In Newark, Ms. Ladd has led the development of innovative policies, programs, and financing tools to preserve and expand affordable housing, prevent foreclosures and evictions, support first-time homeownership, and transform abandoned properties into community assets. She has also advanced mixed-income housing through inclusionary zoning. In addition, she oversees the City’s Equitable Growth Commission and serves as Board Chair of Invest Newark (formerly the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation), a quasi-governmental organization dedicated to strengthening small businesses, implementing the city’s land bank, and operating one of the nation’s fastest broadband fiber networks.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Ladd directed her department’s efforts to mitigate the economic impact on Newark’s most vulnerable residents and small businesses by developing targeted relief programs.
Prior to her work in Newark, Ms. Ladd held several senior leadership roles in housing and community development. As Deputy Director of Washington, D.C.’s DHCD, she managed a 180-person agency with an annual budget exceeding $300 million and oversaw the financing of real estate development projects totaling more than $830 million. Her leadership contributed to transforming the agency into an award-winning organization. She also played a key role in preserving affordable housing to help long-term residents remain in a high-cost city.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Ladd served as Associate Executive Director of the District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency; Chief of Staff at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development; Director of the Maryland Governor’s Housing Policy Commission; and Special Assistant to the Director in Prince George’s County (MD) Department of Housing and Community Development.
Ms. Ladd holds a Master’s degree in Community Planning from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from the University of Rhode Island. She is a Korean American from New England who enjoys cooking and traveling.
